The two arrow buttons on the left move Pip. On the right, JUMP jumps (hold it to jump higher) and RUN sprints while you hold it. Slide your thumb from RUN onto JUMP to keep sprinting while you jump. Stomp beetles, frogs and bats by landing on them; spiky hedgehogs hurt to stomp, so bump the block under them instead. Hit the glowing rune blocks from below for gems and power-ups.

On the title screen, RUN: ALWAYS makes Pip sprint all the time, so you only need the arrows and JUMP.

The acorn helmet lets Pip take one extra hit and smash wooden crates from below. With the helmet on, the next power-up is a feather: press JUMP again in mid-air for a double jump, and hold JUMP while falling to glide. Each hit takes away one power. Every 100 gems, and every golden acorn, gives an extra life.

Each stage has a lantern that lights up as you pass it. If you lose a life after that, you start again from the lantern. You start with 5 lives; when they run out, the game returns to the map with a fresh set of lives, and every stage you have unlocked stays unlocked.

Stomp him three times. After each hit he burrows and pops up somewhere else, gets faster and starts throwing rocks – keep moving and jump onto him while he walks or lands from a jump.

Your unlocked stages, best scores and settings are stored on your device. They move to a new phone through Android's backup and restore (Settings → Google → Backup). They are lost if you uninstall the game or clear its storage without a backup.

Both can be switched on and off on the title screen and in the pause menu.
